How much does advertising on Facebook and Instagram cost in Bulgaria?
Advertising on Facebook and Instagram in Bulgaria starts from around €15 a day of advertising budget to Meta, plus a separate management fee whose size depends on the scope of the work. The budget is the media spend; the fee covers the work on the account. Fifteen euros a day makes around €450 a month with continuous delivery; below that threshold the ad set collects too little data. The real cost, however, is not measured in a monthly budget but in cost per order. At an equal budget, the creative and the offer move that cost more than the amount itself, and whether it is worth it is decided by comparing the cost per order with the margin on it.
My name is Hristiyan Panov — a performance marketing consultant with over 5 years’ experience and over €2 000 000 Managed advertising budgets for over 90 companies on Google and Meta. Below is a breakdown of what determines the price, where the threshold for effectiveness lies, and what factors have a greater impact than the budget itself.
What does the price consist of?
- Advertising budget. It goes straight to Meta. You pay per impression, not per click — so the price depends on how much it costs to reach your specific audience.
- Management fee. Payment is made to the individual or team responsible for developing the strategy, creative content and optimisation. The amount depends on the scope — the number of platforms, the frequency of new creative content and the level of reporting detail — so it is determined on a case-by-case basis rather than according to a fixed price list.
- Content production. Video and photos. The most underestimated expense, and yet the one with the greatest impact on the result.
An agency that allocates its entire budget to production and nothing to creative work almost always ends up paying more per project than one that allocates its budget sensibly between the two.
What is the minimum reasonable budget?
This refers solely to the advertising budget — the amount that goes to Meta. The practical threshold is around €15 a day. The reason isn’t about money, but about data: Meta’s algorithm needs a sufficient number of conversions each week to move out of the training phase. Below this threshold, the campaign learns slowly, results fluctuate wildly, and you cannot distinguish real impact from random variation.
With expensive products and a longer path to purchase, the threshold rises because the same number of conversions requires more impressions.
Why does creativity carry more weight than the budget?
With Meta, the creative does the job that keywords do in Google — it decides who the ad will be shown to. The system starts from a broad audience and narrows delivery according to who stops, watches and buys. In practice, targeting is set by the video or visual itself, not by the checkboxes in the ad set.
Two ads with the same budget and the same audience can differ in cost per order by several times because of the first three seconds. That is why, when results are weak, you look first at retention at the start of the clip, not at the settings.
- The first frame shows the product in use or a human face, not a logo and not a title screen.
- The promise is spoken before the viewer has decided to scroll on.
- The format is vertical and the text can be read without sound.
- Different angles on one message are tested, not one clip with swapped colours.
When CTR falls and CPA rises with unchanged settings, the explanation is usually an exhausted creative, not a wrong budget.
How does tracking affect the price?
If conversions are reported inaccurately, the platform optimises based on an incorrect picture, and the cost per result rises month on month. That is why, during every audit, I check the tracking before setting the budget. See also What are you missing out on without Consent Mode v2?.
How do you work out whether it’s worth it at all?
It’s not about the return, but about the margin. The threshold below which you lose money is calculated precisely: ROAS threshold = 1 / margin.
- On margin 30% the threshold is 3.33.
- On margin 50% the threshold is 2.00.
- On margin 20% the threshold is 5.00.
A return of 3.0 sounds good, but with a margin of 20%, it’s a loss. This is the calculation that’s missing from most discussions about price.
How do contractors charge?
- A fixed monthly fee. Predictable. Suitable for a stable budget.
- Percentage of advertising expenditure. It creates an incentive for the budget to grow, which is not always in your best interests.
- Combination. A base fee plus a lower percentage above a certain threshold.
Whatever you choose, there is one essential condition: the advertising account must remain yours. If it belongs to the contractor, you will lose your history, your audiences and the insights gained from the algorithm should you part ways.
In practice this means a Business Manager registered to your company, while the contractor gets access as a partner, which can be removed with one click. The same applies to the assets that accumulate over the months.
- The pixel and the dataset sit under your business profile, not someone else’s.
- The domain is verified in your name.
- The catalogue and feed are supplied from your shop.
- The page and the Instagram profile stay yours, so that you do not lose the reactions under running ads.
Before starting, ask to see the structure of the account and who is listed as an administrator in it.
FAQ — Frequently Asked Questions about the cost of Facebook advertising
Can I start with €100 a month?
Technically speaking, yes, Meta does not have a minimum. In practice, with a budget of this size, there isn’t enough data for optimisation, and the money goes towards training the algorithm, not towards sales.
Why is the cost of my test result going up every month?
The three most common causes are creative burnout, broken tracking and an audience that is too narrow. They are checked in exactly that order.
Is Instagram advertising cheaper than Facebook advertising?
They are managed via a single account and a single auction. The difference lies in the audience and the format, not in the platform itself.
How long until the first results are in?
The first orders may arrive within days. A clear picture emerges once enough conversions have been accumulated — usually after a few weeks.
What should I ask before hiring someone?
Who owns the account, how is success measured, and against what actual orders are the figures from the platform verified?.
Conclusion
The question „how much does it cost?“ only makes sense when accompanied by a second question: what margin are you working with? Without it, any figure is arbitrary, and any return cannot be proven as a profit.
